Be part of the renaissance in downtown Grand Rapids! Globe Apartments is a true visual landmark! Globe Knitting Works is a series of buildings constructed from 1903 & 1928. The architecture was designed by William G. & ES. Robinson and its successor firm Robinson and Campau. The firm designed such Grand Rapids landmarks as the Berkey & Gay Furniture Factory, Butterworth Hospital, The Ladies Literary Club, the YMCA, the YWCA, and many others. Originally, the building served as a knitting factory for the Globe Company and its founder, Eilert Clements, an inventor, who developed the concept of tailored underwear. The seven story Globe Apartments features large airy loft-style apartment homes with 11 foot ceilings. The seven foot windows have been historically replicated to allow abundant natural light into each apartment. The original timbers have been left exposed to add spectacle to the more than 20 distinctive floor plans. All apartments have new kitchen appliances with breakfast bars, wall to wall carpeting, window coverings and individually controlled central heating and air conditioning. Three blocks south of VanAndel Arena, Globe Apartments is in the same neighborhoods as The Cherry Street Landings and is directly across the street from the New Heartside Park. Section 8 housing is accepted provided the future resident has received their voucher.
